NHRC team to visit malnutrition-hit areas of Vidarbha
Nagpur, June 3 (UNI) A team of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) will visit the areas affected by malnutrition and infant deaths in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra from tomorrow.
The team would visit several villages in Yavatmal and Amravati districts of the region over two days, official sources said.
The team, led by special officer Dr L P Mishra, would arrive in Nagpur from New Delhi and immediately proceed to Yavatmal, the sources said. The team would visit some villages in the district affected by malnutrition and infant deaths during the day, and hold a meeting with officials concerned in Yavatmal the same evening, they said.
On Wednesday, the team would proceed to Amravati and visit affected villages in the district, the sources said, adding that a meeting with officials would be held in Melghat the same evening.
The next day, the team would proceed to Nagpur by road and return to New Delhi on the same day, the sources added.
The team is paying a visit to Vidarbha in response to a petition filed before NHRC by Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti (VJAS), a voluntary organisation working among tribals in the region said in a release here.
