Heat wave continues in UP; claims 37 lives

Lucknow, June 3 (UNI) With mercury hovering 46 degree Celsius at several places of Uttar Pradesh, intense heat wave has claimed 37 lives in the past 24 hours.

The entire UP is reeling under the roasting heat and hot weather conditions since the last couple of days and according to the Met department, the situation is not expected to change in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the death toll in Bundelkhand region rose to 30 with 4 more deaths reported in Mahoba today. While one each was reported dead in Lucknow, Barabanki and Varanasi, two people died in Kanpur and Chitrakoot.

Agra was the hottest at 46 degree Celsius, which was four degrees above normal. The state capital recorded 44.6 degrees C, followed by Varanasi 44 degrees C and Allahabad 45.1 degrees C.

A report from Allahabad said people are posed with hardships with the city being under the jaws of the intence heat wave since last few days. The heavy load shedding is adding to the woes.
