Gujjars threaten to seal all entry points to Delhi tomorrow
New Delhi, June 3 (UNI) The Gujjar community, agitating for Scheduled Tribe status, today called for a Delhi 'bandh' tomorrow, threatening to seal all entry points into the capital.
The decision was announced after the Gujjar Mahapanchayat decided to intensify their agitation, which in Rajasthan over the past week has claimed 24 lives so far.
As peace parleys failed to take place in Rajasthan and a breakthrough in the impasse seemed illusive, Gujjar leaders asserted that they will agitate till their demands are met.
''We will ensure that our demands are considered. The agitation will continue and tomorrow no vehicular traffic will be allowed into Delhi from the satellite towns,'' said Gujjar P S Verma, general Secretary of the 1857 Azad Hind Mahasangh.
He, however, stressed that it will be peaceful demonstration.
Delhi Pradesh Nationalist Congress party held a protest rally to the Prime Minister's residence demanding dismissal of Vasundhara Raje Government in Rajasthan and imposition of President's rule in the state.
Meanwhile, Delhi police has stepped up security at all border points along the national capital to prevent any untoward incident and appealed to people to maintain peace.
