New Delhi, Jun 03 (UNI) A delegation from the Gujjar community led by Dausa MP Sachin Pilot and including six BJP MLAs, today called on BJP President Rajnath Singh urging him to direct Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje to immediately take all steps to restore peace and order and stop ''atrocities'' on agitating Gujjars.
The delegation comprised six BJP MLAs from Rajasthan, Fridabad MP Avtar Singh Bhadana, Delhi MLA Rambir Singh Bidhuri, former MP from Dausa Rama Pilot and several other former and sitting MLAs.
The delegation apprised the BJP Chief about the gravity of the situation which has claimed 24 lives in the four days of violence.
Mr Bhadana alleged that a Rajasthan minister had instigated violence against Gujjar community by setting up Meenas against the agitating Gujjars for inclusion of their caste name in the list of Scheduled Tribes.
The meeting lasted for about 30 minutes.
The BJP President assured the delegation that he would speak to the Chief Minister and ask her to take all steps to restore normalcy in the state and consider the demand of Gujjar community in the right spirit.
He also told the delegation to convey his shock and sympathy to the families of those killed in the police firing and caste clashes.
Noting that the BJP leadership was in constant touch with the State BJP leaders and the government, Mr Singh said he has taken note of the feelings and incidents narrated to him by the delegation and would ask the Rajasthan Government to take redressal measures.
The delegation also cautioned that immediate measures should be taken to contain this violence against Gujjar community or else it would have serious repercussions as this community is spread over most of North India.
After meeting the BJP President, the delegation also proceeded to Congress Headquarters at 24 Akbar Road to apprise the Congress leaders about the incidents.
