BSF issues ID card to villagers in Tripura

Agartala, June 3 (UNI) The BSF Tripura Frontier is issuing multi-purpose identity cards to residents of the bordering villages as part of an effective management of the Indo-Bangladesh border.

BSF officials here today stated that 1,500 ID cards have already been issued in south Tripura and that this happened to be the first time in the NE.

It had been initiated in order to check infiltration and reduction in border crime along international border, officials stated. The source said, ''It will definitely reduce infiltration and help the farmers to cultivate their arable land outside the fence.'' Meanwhile, Director General of BSF A K Mitra is schedule to come Tripura on a three-day visit today to review the border situation.

He will meet the senior officials of both BDF and state administration in the state during his visit.
