TDP to oppose Alumina Refinery Plant in Vizag

Visakhapatnam, Jun 2: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA G Srinivasa Rao today said the party high command had decided to oppose the Alumina Refinery Plant coming up at S Kota mandal in Vizianagaram district.

Talking to newsperson here, he alleged that the Congress was misleading the people of the two districts, which would be badly affected by the plant.

He said the tribals in the region were against the plant being set up by Jindal company.

Meanwhile, the Human Rights Forum (HRF) today strongly objected to the manner in which Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board was planning to conduct a public hearing on the issue on June 4.

In a statement here, HRF Secretary V S Krishna said the environment impact assessment report was incomplete and it failed to specify the source of water for the plant.

He said the plant would devastate the livelihood of tribals and others living in the region and cause irreparable damage to the environment.
