Hyderabad, Jun 2 (UNI) The Telugu Desam Legislature Party (TDLP) today alleged large-scale corruption in the award of tenders of irrigation projects like the mega 'Handri-Neeva' in Andhra Pradesh.

Talking to mediapersons here, TDLP Deputy Leaders Nagam Janardhana Reddy and Yerrabelli Dayakara Rao alleged that Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's Adviser K V P Ramachandra Rao had selected the contractor and Dr Reddy approved the contract.

No rules or procedures were followed. The leaders and wondered why even senior IAS officials were silent over such irregularities.

They claimed that they could prove their charges in the court and ensure that the corrupt were brought to book.

Referring to power supply in the state, they said the TDP was supplying power to farmers for nine hours a day, and when Mr Reddy came to power, he promised to give power for 12 hours. Later, he said he could give power only for seven hours but actually the state government was giving power only for five hours, they claimed.

By cutting power supply for two hours, the TDP leaders said the state government was saving Rs 750 crore and for free power, it was spending only Rs 450 crore and hence making profit even on free power.

The leaders said while the TDP was considerate, the Congress was sending those who failed to pay the electricity bill even to jail.

They said apart from what was generated during the TDP regime, not even a single unit was added during the three-year rule of the Congress.
