Ahmedabad, June 2 (UNI) The Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) today strongly condemned the firing on the Gujjar community, agitating for its inclusion in the Scheduled Tribes category, describing it as ''a fascist act'' by the Rajasthan government.

In a statement here, SUCI general secretary Nihar Mukherjee severely indicted the Rajasthan government for not taking timely action to amicably settle the issue through dialogue with the protestors.

He said the Gujjars have for the last six years, demanding reservation under ST category. After failing to elicit any tangible response from the government, they went on the agitational path.

Drawing attention to the fact that scope of employment is fast dwindling in crisis-ridden capitalism, Mr Mukherjee alleged that the ''ruling parties are toiling masses to worst forms of casteism and communalism, thereby fomenting both pro- and anti-reservation mentalities, so that one community is pitted against the other over the quota issue.''
