'South Asia should have a common anthem'
Shimla, June 2: South Asian countries should have a common anthem which could be played at SAARC meetings, an Indian MP suggested today.
''We can have a common SAARC anthem to symbolise the SAARC spirit instead of playing the national anthems of the 8 SAARC nations at SAARC meetings,'' Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Dineshbhai Trivedi said, participating in the inaugural session of a two-day conference 'Towards South Asian Unity', organised by the South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA).
Mr Trivedi's suggestion was welcomed by delegates from all SAARC countries.
Earlier, the organisers apologised to the Nepali delegation after it was pointed out to them they had inadvertently played the old national anthem of Nepal, which was replaced after the overthrow of the monarchy.
