Meena leaders threaten enmasse resignation

Jaipur, June 2 (UNI) Rajasthan party incharge Gopinath Munde, sent to aid the state government to negotiate with agitating Gujjars, had to face angry Meena leaders who threatened enmass resignations if the letter recommending Schedule Tribe status to Gujjars was sent to the Centre.

The Meena leaders also demanded that talks with Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje be called off.

The talks held by BJP leaders Mr Munde and Mr Ananth Kumar with Food and Supply minister Kirori Lal Meena, Meena MLAs Virendra Meena and BJP MP Kailash Meghwal were interrupted when Meena Aarakshan Bachao Samiti leader Ram Narain Kemla created commotion at the Khasa Kothi hotel saying the Chief Minister should call off all discussions with the Gujjars.

Talking to mediapersons, Lalsot MLA Virendra Meena said all 31 Meena legislators, including two senior ministers, would resign if the letter recommending ST status to Gujjars was sent by the state government to the Centre.

He said the Meenas would revolt if Gujjars are provided with ST status although the government can give in to other Gujjar demands.

He said the Meena leaders are appealing to both communities to maintain peace and shun violence.

Mr Munde was taking feedback about Meenas and the general caste equations in the state from the Meena leaders of the state.
