Karnataka to hold CET for admission to PG courses

Bangalore, June 2 (UNI) The admissions to post-graduate courses in various universities in Karnataka for meritorious seats will be done through Common Entrance Test (CET) from this academic year, state Higher Education Minister D H Shankara Murthy said today.

Speaking after holding a meeting with the members of Karnataka Legislative Council, elected from Graduates and Teachers constituency, here he said the members made several suggestions to safeguard the interests of the students coming under respective universities-- while approving the state government's decision on the issue.

Mr Murthy said the meeting evaluated various implications of introducing the new system for the admissions into various PG courses in Arts, Science and Commerce faculties of various universities.

He said the new system would be introduced in the current academic year itself in which all the seats available in state universities would be pooled together and admissions made according to the merit list of the CET.

To safeguard the interests of the students residing in the respective universities, it was resolved to reserve certain quota for them while the rest of the seats would be made available to all the students irrespective of their university affiliations.

The suggestions made in the meeting would be placed in the next Inter-University Board meeting. It was also decided to reserve certain quota for Inter-state universities' students as per the guidelines of the University Grant Commission, he added.
