IGNCA advocates short-term programme for preservation of culture
Itanagar, Jun 2 (UNI) The Indira Gandhi National Center for Arts (IGNCA) member secretary Dr K K Chakroborty today said the state government should take up short term and exclusive programmes for preservation of its culture and tradition.
The IGNCA has assured to provide all logistical support in this endeavor, Dr Chakroborty said.
Addressing a discourse on 'Indigenous knowledge system and heritage of Arunachal Pradesh' here this morning Dr Chakroborty advocated that the village elders should be involved while documenting the unique history of this tribal state especially in their traditional dialects.
Stating that most of the government strategies in the country failed due to lack of cultural base, the member secretary said that culture should not be confined to songs and dances of any community but should be incorporated in all spheres.
''Arunchal Pradesh still remains a repository of culture and nature when in most of the other states culture has been pushed to the back stage,'' he commented and urged all the departments to work together for its conservation.
Stressing that culture should not be treated as a medium of entertainment he said that it should be used for developmental activities.
Conserving culture in museum should be avoided, he said, adding that neglect and contempt of culture would ruin civilisation.
Dr Chakroborty also suggested for evolving conservation manual by the department concerned based on local knowledge.
Secretary Research Y D Thongchi, research director Tage Tada and many resource persons also spoke on the occasion.
The discussion was organised by IGNCA in collaboration with state research department.
