Haryana Govt to celebrate World Environment Day
Chandigarh, June 2 (UNI) The Haryana Government has decided to celebrate World Environment Day on June five.
To mark the occasion, a state level function will be organised in the campus of Kurukshetra University (KU).
While stating this here today, Environment Department spokesman said that the celebration would be organised jointly by Department of Environment, State Pollution Control Board and Institute of Environmental Studies, KU.
Environment Commissioner and Secretary Mr D S Dhesi will be the Chief Guest of the function.
He said that the celebration would be launched with a "Environment Awareness Rally" in which about 400 students representing various schools and eco-clubs would participate.
"The main objective of this rally is to make the general public aware about various environmental problems" he added.
The rally will be flagged off by Environment Director Ms Jaiwanti Sheokand.
He informed that the other environment related activities will be held in the Senate hall of the university.
Eminent Scientist Mr G Singh, Director CSSRI, Prof Brij Gopal JNU, New Delhi and Dr J C Dagar, CSSRI, Karnal, will deliver lectures on environmental awareness.
The students of the university and eco-clubs will also deliver speeches on various environmental problems.
He said besides this, the gathering would be addressed by Environment Director, Kurukshetra deputy Commissioner and other officers of the university Environment Department. This would be followed by Prize distribution function.
