Death toll rises to 22 in rain-related incidents in M'wada

Aurangabad, June 2 (UNI) With the death of ten more persons, the toll in the rains-related deaths in the last two days had reached 22 in Marathwada region.

The death toll recorded yesterday, in the region was 14 including four cattle. While on May 31 alone, eight people including two minors were reportedly killed and three others injured in rain-related incidents.

According to sources at the District Divisional Commissioner's office, five deaths including three of one family and four others were injured in Jalna, three in Hingoli and one in Latur and Usmanabad each. Of the four cattle died, two were from Jalna and two from Hingoli, sources said.

In Hingoli, the members of one Kale family were working in their farm at Sarwadi when lightning struck and, Bhagwat Pundlik Kale (15), Sushila Kailas Kale (32) and Surekha Kale (35) were killed on the spot, while Vandana Baliram Kale and Sunita Vilas Kale sustained severe injuries. They were admitted in Jalna district general hospital, sources said.

In another lightning incident at Mauje Daha in Mantha tehsil, Vikram Vinayak Chavan (23) was killed and his wife Anita Vikram Chavan was seriously injured. A bullock was also killed due to lightning here.

Similarly, Vithal Bhagwat Kale(65) was killed as the lightning struck at Panchan Wadgaon in Jalna, and a teenage girl from Rathodnmagar Tanda, Ms Swati Ram Aade sustained severe injuries.

She was admitted in the Jalna civil hospital.

Four others were killed and a woman sustained burns when lightning struck them in Hingoli district.

In Pusgaon tehsil, Vithal Deoba Mhaske (40) died of electrocution, sources added.
