Cong to go alone in Assembly polls in Meghalaya
Shillong, June 2: The Congress has decided to go alone in the 2008 February Assembly election in Meghalaya.
AICC Secretary in-charge Meghalaya Major (retd) Ved Prakash, who arrived here yesterday, said merit would be the criterion while alloting tickets to sitting MLAs.
''The seat allotment to Congress MLAs will surely have a merit angle,'' Major Prakash said, adding the Congress would field their candidates in all the 60 seats, he said.
Major Prakash said his visit to the state was to rejuvenate and ensure that the party remained united at all levels to face the Assembly elections.
The senior AICC leader would also visit Garo belt--the NCP stronghold--as part of strengthening the party.
When asked about Congress MLA R G Lyngdoh, whose name was not recommended by the Block Congress Committee, Major Prakash said he was yet to interact with Mr Lyngdoh.
