Advani, Jaswant meet PM to discuss Raj violence

New Delhi, June 2: Leaders of Opposition L K Advani and Jaswant Singh today called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to discuss the Rajasthan situation where violence and police firing has left 24 people dead.

The meeting revolved around the last four days of violence caused by the demand of Gujjar community to grant them Scheduled Tribe status and the killings in the subsequent police firing, sources said.

Shortly after the meeting the Prime Minister issued an appeal to the people of Rajasthan and its neighbouring states to desist from violence and help maintain peace and calm.

The events of the past few days in parts of Rajasthan have caused a great deal of pain and distress to large numbers of people, he said.

''I appeal to all the people of Rajasthan and also those in neighbouring states to maintain peace and calm and desist from actions which may disrupt the lives of ordinary citizens'', the Prime Minister said.
