A Mouzin and a soldier killed, police station attacked in J

Srinagar, June 2 (UNI) Militants attacked a police station and injured to a Special Police Officer (SPO) while unidentified persons slaughtered a mouzin of a local mosque and an injured soldier died in Jammu and Kashmir overnight.

An official spokesman said a soldier, who was injured in yesterday's fidayeen attack on an army convoy at Sheeri in Baramulla died in the hospital today. Four persons--two Lasher-e-Toiba (LeT) militants Abu Salam and Abu Shahid, resident of Pakistan and two security personnel--have been killed and five others wounded in the incident.

He said militants attacked police station Basantgarh in Udhampur district of Jammu region early this morning with automatic weapons.

However, alert guards retaliated and in the fierce clash one SPO Jameel Ahmad was injured. Militants however, managed to escape.

Militants hurled a hand grenade towards a police gypsy at Saidpora in Sopore. However, it missed the target and exploded on the roadside without causing any damage.

Security forces arrested a militant Shabir Ahmad Lone alongwith one pistol, one magazine and six rounds of ammunition at Kreeri in Barmulla district.

He said mouzin ( one who gives azan) Mohammad Yaseen Wani was killed by some unidentified persons with a sharp edged weapon when he was performing prayers in a local mosque at Hurahpora, Shopian, last night.

Police has registered a case and launched a massive manhunt to nab the killers.

People of the area protested against the incident.
