Real-time traffic monitoring system launched in Bangalore

Bangalore, June 1 (UNI) The Rs 350-crore B-TRAC project, an initiative to find solutions to the ever-increasing traffic congestion in the city which will help to have a real-time traffic monitoring and enforcement system, was formally launched here today. The B-TRAC 2010 project, launched with private-public partnership, is an initiative of the Bangalore City police and the state government, along with country's leading telecom solutions providers Airtel and Spice Telecom.

Speaking on the occasion, Karantaka Home and Parliamentary Affairs Minister M P Prakash said the launching of four components among the total 10 projects of B-TRAC was an attempt to carry the modern technological invasion to the doorsteps of the common man with the joint initiative of public-private partnership.

The project is envisaged to tackle the enormous challenges of traffic congestion, safety and pollution, besides enforcing traffic discipline and order in the IT city, one of the fastest growing cities in the world.

The project was also an attempt to bring in the latest technology in traffic management and enforcement, besides upgrading the signal modernisation, traffic monitoring camera system, establishment of traffic management centre.

Four of the ten components of the project launched are: Bangalore Transport Information System, Police Blackberry Hand-held Devices, Easy Auto and Traffic Lane System.
