Real-time traffic Monitoring system launched in Bangalore

Bangalore, Jun 1 (UNI) The ambitious Rs 350 Crore B-TRAC project, an initiative to find solutions to the ever increasing Traffic congestion and to have a real-time traffic monitoring and enforcement system, for the city was formally launched here today.

The B-TRAC 2010 project was launched with private-public partnership was an initiative of the Bangalore City police and the state government along with country's leading telecom solutions providers Airtel and Spice Telecom.

Speaking on the occasion, Karantaka Minister for Home and Parliamentary Affairs M P Prakash said that with launching of four components among the total 10 projects of the Rs 350-crore B-TRAC was an attempt to carry the modern technological invasion to the doorsteps of the common man with the joint initiative of public and private partnership.

The B-TRAC 2010 project envisaged to tackle the enormous challenges of traffic congestion, safety and pollution besides enforcing traffic discipline and order in Bangalore, which is one of the fastest growing city in the world. The project was also an attempt to bring in the latest technology in traffic management and enforcement besides upgrading the signal modernization, traffic monitoring camera system, establishment of traffic management center and other states have shown keen interest to state's B-TRAC project, he added.

Four of the ten components of the B-TRAC 2010 which were launched today are, Bangalore Transport Information System, Police Blackberry Hand held devices, Easy Auto and Traffic Lane System.

The Bangalore Transport Information System was a real-time traffic monitoring system that will help a person travel around city to know about traffic congestion, alternate route, possible time that may consume to reach a destination and other related informations through mobile.

The Police Blackberry Handheld device, was an electronic equipment that will allow a police officer to book cases and issue notices through wireless pocket printers. It also enables tracking of past violations. The Automated Traffic Enforcement system, will enable to report details of traffic violations to the central automatic center which automatically generate challans and the same would be sent by post to the offenders on a daily basis.

The Easy Auto, the another component of the project proposes to establish a 24-hour web-based call center where a registered passenger can place a request for an auto-pickup at least half an hour prior to his travel. The Customer can call or SMS into a specific number and request for a pick up. The Easy Auto service was being associated from Spice Telecom.

Minister for Transport Chaluvarayaswamy, Industries Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu, top Police officials have also participated during the launch of the project.
