Pvt college directed to return fee to student in Kashmir

Srinagar, May 31 (UNI) A Consumer Protection Forum here has directed a private college to return the fee along with interest to a student for deficient services.

Anjum Afshan had filed a case with the Divisional Consumer Protection Forum here against Caset College of Computer Sciences, Karan Nagar, Srinagar, for poor services.

The Forum, comprising President Rashid Ahmad Lone and members M I Kirmani and Amina Farooq, after hearing arguments from both the sides found the college deficient in services.

It directed the college authorities to return an amount of Rs 23,520 to the student along with an interest rate of 12 per cent from the date of deposit of the fee till its realisation.

The Forum also awarded Rs 20,000 and Rs 2000 to the student as compensation on account of mental and physical agony and the cost of litigation respectively.

In another case, the Forum directed National Garages, B C Road, Jammu, and Waris Motors, Srinagar, to pay Rs 3,61,367 as cost of the vehicle and nine per cent interest to a complainant, Manzoor Ahmad Khanday for deficiency of services. It was also awarded Rs 2,000 to him as the cost of litigation.

The Forum also ordered a cellphone dealer, Kashmir Mobile Service, Red Cross Road, Srinagar, to pay Rs 27,000 along with six per cent interest or take back the Siemens SL 155 handset from Firdous Ahmad Ganie after it was found to be defective.

Rs 6,000 were also awarded to the complainant as compensation on account of mental agony and litigation charges.
