Protestors try to damage rail bridge in Sawai Madhopur dist
Jaipur, June 1 (UNI) A group of violent protestors in Sawai Madhopur district tried to damage a railway bridge today despite shoot-at-sight orders being promulgated in the district.
The police reached Isarda Chauth ka Barwara, the site of railway bridge but the protestors had fled by then.
Meanwhile, shoot-at-sight orders have also been issued in Karauli district.
The Gujjar agitation called by the Gurjar Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti, has spiralled out of control with reports of four killed in Gurjar-Meena clashes in Lalsot of Dausa district today.
Meena community has threated to go all out to stop the Gurjars from getting a share in the ST pie. Meenas already have been given the ST status in the state.
Meanwhile, the army staged a flag march in Kota today. In Jhalawar's Jhalarapatan, protestors torched the police post in Lanka. The situation was however brought under control by the police.
Sunel, Ratlau, Manoharthana, Bhawanimandi, Ghatoli, Panchpahad and Sarola towns in Jhalawar observed shutdowns today with no reports of any untoward incidents.
Bandhs have also been reported from Diigi in Tonk, Laxmangarh, Rajgarh, Tijara in LAwar, Makrana in Nagaur, Jahajpur, Banera, Bijoliya, Naranpur in Bhilwara, Vijay Nagar in Ajmer, Sujangarh in Churu, Chippabarod in Baran, Barabar in Chittorgarh, Khetri, Babi, Jhunjhunu in Jhunjhunu dist, Karauli in Karauli district, devgarh in Rajsamand, Neem ka Thana, Khandela, Ajitgarh, Patan, Fatehpur, Sikar in Sikar district and Phulera in Jaipur (Rural).
Traffic has been paralysed on major highways including Alwar-Kishanganj highways, Karauli-Bundi highways, Pilani-Rajgarh state highway and others.
Meanwhile, thousands of Meenas, led by Rambabu Meena, gathered at Kamani Bagh in Alwar and took out a rally to the Collectorate and handed over a memorandum demanding that no other caste should be accorded the ST status.
They demanded strict action against Gurjars who have disrupted the road and rail services, affecting thousands of people.
