Poet protests teaching of English in Kannada-medium schools

Bangalore, June 1 (UNI) National Poet G S Shivarudrappa has today a protest against the teaching of English as a subject in Kannada medium schools from this academic year.

Participating in a dharna conducted at the Kannada Sahitya Parishad here he termed ''unscientific'' the government decision to implement English from first standard. It was a decision taken in a hast, he felt.

He said numerous education experts like Mahatma Gandhi, Poet K V Puttappa had favoured teaching in the mother tongue in the early formation stages of the students.

The Kannada Sahitya Parishad would protest the decision of the government which was against the resolution passed at the Kannada meet held at Shimoga recently.
