Nine acquitted in '93 Hyderabad serial blast case
Hyderabad, Jun 1 (UNI) A city court today acquitted nine accused in connection with the sensational 1993 Hyderabad bomb blast case in which three people were killed and several others injured.
Due to lack of sufficient evidence on the involvement of the nine accused in the case, seventh Metropolitan Magistrate G Radha Krishna struck down the case and acquitted them. The accused were lodged in the Charlapalli Jail.
The acquitted persons were Jazeeruddin, Azimuddin, Nasiruddin, Yousof Mohammed, MD Shamshuddin, Mohd Ansari, Khaja Mujibuddin, all from Gulbarga in Karnataka and Gouse Pasha and Azeez Pasha from Hyderabad city.
The two accused, Gouse Pasha and Khaja Mujibuddin, were released on bail recently.
After hearing the submissions by the prosecution and the counsel for Jalel Ansari, the main accused, the magistrate said the trial would be conducted seperately as Ansari did not attend the court.
Earlier, the CBI trial court had convicted ten accused, including Jaleel Ansari, in the cases and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
In 1996, the nine accused were brought here for interrogation by the city police and lodged in the Cherlapalli Jail as undertrials.
In view of the security reasons, the Seventh Matropolitan Magistrate conducted the arguments in the case at the jail only.
The city police arrested ten people, including Ansari, who also masterminded the Mumbai blasts, in connection with the blasts.
The ten accused were involved in the blast case of Abids police station on August 12, 1993, followed by another blast at Humayun Nagar police station.
On October 22, a tiffin bomb exploded at Madina Education centre, killing a watchman and injuring more than five people. On December 6, militants exploded a bomb in the Delhi-bound AP Express in which two passengers were killed and more than 20 injured.
