Need to look for housing to EWS and LIG people: Selja
Mumbai, June 1 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Housing Selja today stressed the need for providing finance for housing to the economically weaker sections (EWS) and lower income group (LIG) people in the country.
While inaugurating a day-long seminar on the 'Affordable housing for all', Ms Selja said, these two categories, which have less paying capacity, should be considered for housing.
She said, the banks and housing finance companies are presently providing loans to those who have taken the second or third loans.
It is essential that these institutions should give loans to those people who are purchasing the house for the first time, she added. The minister also stressed on the need for maintaining flexible approach while providing loans.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister of State in the PMO, Prithviraj Chavan said, 75 million houses are needed in the country which is quite a huge challenge.
Calling for the need to change some policies and standards in order to reach to the people, he said, efforts should be made to construct the houses by using bamboos, which are quite environment-friendly.
