Nagaland protests killing by Asom Police

Kohima, Jun 1: The Nagaland Government today protested the alleged killing of one person by the Assam Police (AP) in Anaki-C village along the Asom-Nagaland border under Mokokchung district of Nagaland.

Official sources here alleged some personnel of the AP shot dead one Alemmongba Ao of Mopungchuket village of Mokokchung district, when he was working along with some other labourers in a tea garden.

In a letter written to the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police of Sibsagar district of Asom, Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Singh alleged that the AP personnel shot the deceased without any provocation and requested them to arrest the guilty policemen immediately and conduct a trial.

Mr Singh also highlighted other atrocities perpetrated by the AP at Anaki-C village and alleged that on February 18, the AP had arrested six villagers and burnt down some houses of the villagers.

He cautioned that any attempt to protect the criminals in uniform would disturb bilateral relations between the two neighbouring states and also amount to violation of human rights.
