Mohali to be included in JNURM scheme

Mohali, June 1 (UNI) In a major initiative to boost integrated development of this headquarter town, the Planning Commission of India has agreed to the proposal of the Punjab Government to extend the scheme of Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNURM) on the pattern of Ludhiana and Amritsar.

Under JNURM the Central Government will spend Rs 3150 crore in Ludhiana and Rs 2054 crore in Amritsar for creating world class infrastructure in the two major towns of the state.

Speaking on the occasion of the Foundation laying ceremony of EMAAR-MGF's Mohali Hills Rs 16,000 crore mega township project, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal sought to dispel the misconceptions and fears from the minds of the prospective investors that his government was averse to industrilisation and township projects.

The government is committed to encourage industrialization in a big way as the agricultural profession was no more profitable due to the diminishing returns on produce as compared to high cost of agricultural inputs, he pointed out. He said that all the mega projects within the parameters of the laid down industrial policy would be given the go-ahead signal while others would be cleared after rectifying the technical problems.

He said that the propaganda of the previous Congress regime that SAD-BJP after coming to power would scrap all the mega projects had been belied. He made it crystal clear that the state government would create an investor-friendly climate to woo the investors not only from the country but abroad also.

He said that EMAAR MGF would not only develop residential colonies at Mohali Hills but unlike other housing companies it would also create an infrastructure which would include facilities for health care, education, sanitation and commercial and retail.
