Man plunges to death along with unwilling wife

Aizawl, June 1 (UNI) A man committed suicide by jumping from a cliff along with his estranged wife under Bawngkawn police station here yesterday.

Official sources said Shiraj Uddin (32) and his wife Lalremsangi, of Durtlang Leitan, died when they jumped from the cliff at Bawngkawn Sairanf road yesterday.

The estranged couple, who had three children, had seperated a few months ago.

Sources, quoting eyewitnesses, said Uddin dragged out his wife and forced her to jump with him.

They added that Uddin suspected Lalremsangi of having an extra marital affair after they were separated.

Uddin was involved in police cases in the past and was one of the accused behind the kidnapping of the Phaileng middle school teachers, the sources said.
