Labour delegation hands over memorandum to Sonia Gandhi

Gandhinagar, June 1 (UNI) A labour delegation led by Gujarat Congress Trade Union Core Group's co-ordinator Mr Ashok Punjabi, met Congress president Sonia Gandhi here today and presented a memorandum, detailing their demands.

Mr Punjabi called for rectifying the present labour laws so as to genuinely help the labour workforce.

He urged Ms Gandhi to help revoke the contract labour clause and enhancing family pension from the present Rs 300-400 to that of minimum wage and safeguards to the unorganised labour force, a Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee(GPCC) release said here.

Mr Punjabi pleaded Ms Gandhi for amendment of the labour laws during the forthcoming monsoon session of Parliament so as to prevent oppression of the unorganised sector.

Amomg those present with Mr Punjabi were J G Mahurkar (secretary, INTUC), Srinukul Mehta (state president, INTUC) and Jhaveribhai Desai (secretary, Majdoor Mahajan Sangh).
