Indo-China BPM to strengthen friendship

Bumla, Indo-Sino border, June 1: Close on the heels of the alleged Chinese incursion into Arunachal Pradesh recently and resultant heat and dust raised over the issue even rocking the Parliament, both India and China convened yet another Border Personnel Meeting (BPM) braving chilly weather along the rough frontiers to further knot the age-old relationship.

BPM held yesterday had been among the series of events conducted between the two Asian giants to strengthen their relations besides, fostering mutual respect, maturity and confidence among the forces manning the frontiers.

This time India hosted the bonhomie event, which consists of total four such events in a year.

Another forthcoming one had been scheduled for 15th August of India while China would be hosting the same during October 1 and 30 on their side.

The meeting was an indication of how both the neighbours had developed close relations over a period of time and strengthened the bonds of friendship and camaraderie despite all odds, which spoke volumes for the growing trust and faith between the border troops deployed in the sector.

The BPM commenced with the Indian delegation receiving the Chinese counterparts at the 'Heap of Stones', along the LAC, followed by a formal interaction between the two groups.

The Indian delegation was headed by Brigadier Sanjay Kulkarni, while Colonel Zhang Wei Guo headed the Chinese side.

Both the sides opined that the two nations should continue to strengthen the bonds of friendship, while maintaining peace and tranquility along the border.

The mega event included a ceremonial hoisting of flags of both the countries, exchanging gifts and raising several toasts amidst cheers which remained its hallmark.

Some of the Chinese officers and soldiers exchanged Chinese currency and other gifts with the Indian Army personnel and mediapersons.

During their closing addresses, the heads of the delegations had the same message to convey -- ''the two nations and their armies need to continue and strengthen the spirit of friendship''.

They expressed optimism that today's event, though a small step, would play a significant role towards the ongoing efforts to improve bilateral relations.
