IED recovered from train in North Bengal
Guwahati, June 1 (UNI) A major disaster was averted today when an explosive-laden box was recovered from a coach of the Teesta-Torsha Express at Dhupguri railway station in North Bengal.
Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) CPRO Trikalaika Rabha informed that a box, laden with Improvised Explosive Device(IED), was recovered from a general category coach of the train, second from the engine.
The train, which runs between Alipurduar and Howrah, was later allowed to proceed, though all other train movement between Alipurduar and New Jalpaiguri stations remained suspended since 1355 hours, when the bomb was recovered.
Army intelligence informed the Deputy Regional Manager of NFR about the presence of a bomb inside the passenger train.
The DRM alerted the NFR officials and the train was immediately stopped at Dhupguri station, Mr Rabha said.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) found the explosive-laden box and it was immediately taken out to the platform.
The CPRO said, ''The station has been evacuated and the box placed under sand bags. The Army bomb disposal squad of Binaguri is already on way.'' UNI MT-SG PL KLC1753
