Govt to revamp open school system: Minister
Hyderabad, Jun 1 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Adult Education and District Primary Education Programme (DPEP) Minister M Hanumantha Rao today said the government would revamp the 'open school' system, introduced in the state in 1991.
Addressing newspersons here, Mr Rao said the objective of the open schools was to provide alternative system of education to the dropouts of formal system, and also to other children who missed the benefits of formal system.
Stating that the open schooling would be introduced in the tenth standard this year, he said the government was also contemplating to introduce open schools in intermediate standard in the future.
The Minister said the government was allocating Rs four crore for open schools every year. The allocations would be increased next year, he added.
At present, 1,501 study centres, having 44,970 students, were running in the state. Out of the eight lakh people enrolled in the open schools, four lakh had completed the course, since its inception.
