New Delhi, Jun 1 (UNI) Keeping in view the summer season demand of sugar, the Government today released quarterly non-levy sugar for April-June 2007 at 41 lakh tonnes, as against 38 lakh tonnes announced earlier.

An official statement here said that this has been done in view of the summer demand for sugar.

Accordingly, the non-levy sugar quota for the month of June 2007 has been increased to 16 lakh tonnes from 13 lakh tonnes.

The sugar released for the month of June 2007 is required to be sold within the month.

The higher non-levy quota is expected to maintain the retail prices of sugar in the open market at reasonable level, the statement added.
