Chest containing cash and cheques stolen from LIC office

Hazaribagh, June 1 (UNI) A chest containing more than Rs eight lakh was stolen from an LIC branch office in the district last night, police said today.

Besides the cash, cheques of more than Rs two lakh and two blank cheque books were also kept in the chest in the first floor of the building in which LIC office was located, police added.

The robbers had cut the iron gates at the main entrance of the office.

The theft occured merely 100 m from the district Suprintendent of Police office. A home guard jawan was deputed for security at the Food Corporation of India office which was on the ground floor of the building.

Police were investigating the matter and a case had been lodged at the Sadar police station.
