Bengal veryfying reports of small pox in Bangladesh
Kolkata, Jun 1 (UNI) West Bengal's health minister Surya Kanta Mishra today allayed the fear of small pox reports in neighbouring Myanmar and Bangladesh and said his ministry was in touch with WHO and National Institute of Communicable Disease (NICD) to find out the veracity.
" We have already contacted with the officials of WHO and NICD on phone and they verbally told us that there was no such report of small pox in those two countries", Mr Mishra told reporters here.
However, written reports from them were expected by this evening regarding specific queries of contagious viral disease.
The state government, meanwhile, alerted all districts of the state particularly, bordering areas to keep maximum vigil in this regard, he added.
Mr Mishra said his ministry was verifying the reports that small pox was reported in Myanmar and Bangladesh.
A Bengali tv channel yesterday aired the reports of small pox in those two countries.
He, however, made it clear that there was cause to be panicky about the viral.
