AP CM asks TN not to worry about Dam across Palar

Chennai, Jun 1 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekara Reddy today said Tamil Nadu need not worry about the check dam being constructed by his government across Palar in Kuppam as it was only a minor project to cater to the drinking water needs of few villages.

Talking to newspersons at the airport, Dr Reddy, who is here in connection with All India Conference of Telegu Federation, said some political parties were unnecessarily precipitating the issue as if the northern districts of Tamil Nadu would be totally deprived of Palar water if the dam was built.

He said there was absolutely no cause of worry for Tamil Nadu as the proposed dam is a very small project to cater to the drinking water needs of poeple in Kuppam and nearby villages and provide irrigation facilities to 5,000 acres of land.

Claiming that the building of the dam was well within the rights of Andhra Pradesh government, Dr Reddy assured that Andhra would not act against the interest of Tamil Nadu. However, it was unfortunate that a disinformation campaign has been launched, he said.
