Sonia Gandhi lashes out at BJP govt in Gujarat

Mehsana, May 31 (UNI) Congress President Sonia Gandhi today said only her party was capable of reviving the lost glory of the state as the Narendra Modi-led BJP government was playing havoc with ''brothers and sisters'' of Gujarat.

Addressing a mammoth Kisan rally on the concluding day of 'Kisan Yatra' in the North gujarat district of Mehsana this evening, Mrs Gandhi asserted that the Congress was with the common man rather than those who were talking about Gujarat's self respect.

She called upon the people of the state ''not to depend on the present rulers'' because of their dictatorship ideology and said only her party could bring progress in Gujarat.

Citing the recent incidents of two young girls being subjected to rape and murder in Junagadh, Gandhi said ''this government is not serious but careless. It sees everything through jaundiced eye of religion that compounds problems''.

She said ''we should not ignore problems being faced by the farming community. At least 40 farmers have committed suicide in the state''. But the figure as per Kisan Sangh is over 300, she added.

The Kisan rally marked the end of 11 day Kisan Yatra, which had commenced from Ambaji and passed through several districts of North Gujarat.
