Public transport fares increased in Delhi
New Delhi, May 31 (UNI) The common man, already struggling to make ends meet, was today handed out another stunner by the Delhi government increasing fares of public transport-- Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus service, autos and taxis.
While the minimum fare for DTC has been increased to Rs three from Rs two, without disturbing the rest of the structure, the basic fare for autos will now start from Rs ten instead of Rs eight. For taxis it shall be Rs 15 per km in place of Rs 13.
For autos, the journey after the first kilometer will now cost Rs 4.50 per km, a hike of one rupee over the previous structure and a cab ride will be dearer by Rs 1.50 at Rs 8.50 per km.
Announcing the review, which was a long-standing demand of auto and taxi operators, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said the hike was minimum, keeping in mind the interest of the general public.
Talking to reporters after a cabinet meeting Transport Minister Haroon Yusuf said the review will be notified soon.
The DTC, facing crippling losses, will get additional revenue of Rs 45 crore.
