Police remand for two in arms recovery case in Agartala
Agartala, May 31 (UNI) The West Tripura District Court has sent two persons, arrested on May 29 on an arms recovery case, to police custody for 14 days, while police detained another person for interrogation.
The Tripura police, along with intelligence officials, had exposed a nexus between arms smugglers and criminals from a pen drive (computer hardware) recovered along with arms and ammunition from a house in Agartala.
Police suspected that the arms were brought from Bangladesh for smugglers and criminals. The house owner, Debashis Das, accused of a number of murder cases and criminal activities, was still absconding.
In a joint operation, the Quick Reaction Team (QRT) of Tripura Police and Assam Rifles recovered eight firearms and a huge quantity of ammunition here on May 29 and arrested two persons, police said.
Meanwhile, North Tripura District Court ordered 14 days' police remand for three persons, arrested on May 29, for possessing 75 kg Agar, (a contraband forest produce) worth Rs 40 lakh, from Dharmanagar in North Tripura.
