Lok Ayukta raid unearths 1.8 crore property from tax official's home
Tumkur, Karnataka, May 31 (UNI) Lok Ayukta police have initiated action against an Assistant Commissioner of Commercial taxes for possessing unaccounted property to the tune of 1.8 crore which including gold, silver, bank deposits and real estate.
Speaking to newspersons here Lok Ayukta Superintendent of Police M B Pavin said that the said official, H C Nagaraj, posted in this city, had amassed wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.
This was brought to light after a raid conducted on his house in the city yesterday. The search operations had continued for the second day today.
"During the course of the raid, police found the official in possession of six houses and plots in different cities like Bangalore, Mysore, Tumkur and Shimoga. 981 grams of gold, 6.5 kgs silver articles, Rs 90,300 in cash for which official had no accounts was also found. This official had opened 31 bank accounts in the name of his relatives and friends in Tumkur, Shimoga and Madhugiri. Rs eight lakh in bank balance and Rs three lakh of fixed deposits had also been frozen," he added.
