K'taka Cabinet to decide on compensation to sugarcane farmers

Mangalore, May 31 (UNI) The Karnataka Cabinet will take a final decision on payment of Rs 25,000 per hectare as compensation to the sugarcane growers, whose crop was not lifted by sugar factories for crushing, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said today.

Talking to newspersons here, he said both the Finance department and Cooperatives department have recommended the relief and a decision would be taken in the next Cabinet meeting.

Mr Kumaraswamy said the sugarcane growers were on the verge of destroying the crop lying in their field as the cane crushing factories could not purchase it due to hike in sugar prices.

Replying to a question, he said that during his campaign for the June 2 byelection to Ullal, several issues have come across and ''I have lost confidence in announcing packages, but surely would come out with solutions to solve the problems of the people.'' UNI
