IAF briefs Parliamentary Standing Committee on security in NE

Shillong, May 31 (UNI) The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence, chaired by MP Balasaheb Vikhe Patil, visited the Eastern Air Command (EAC) headquarters here yesterday and interacted with the Air Force officials.

The committee comprised eight MPs assisted by a team of officials from the Lok Sabha Secretariat and Ministry of Defence, official sources said.

A presentation on 'Modernisation of the Indian Air Force' and 'Human Resource Policy and Manpower Planning in the IAF' was made to the committee. Various issues pertaining to these subjects were deliberated upon in the meeting, yesterday.

Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, EAC Air Marshal P K Barbora summed up the points, reassuring the dignitaries about the high degree of operational preparedness of the EAC and emphasised the need for bringing the North East into the national mainstream by developing infrastructure.

Air Marshal G S Kochar, Senior Air Staff Officer, Air Vice-Marshal J S Gandyok , Senior Officer-in-Charge Administration and Air Vice- Marshal S S Gunashekhar, Senior Maintenance Staff Officer of the EAC participated in the discussions.

Meghalaya Chief Secretary Ranjan Chatterjee, Joint Secretary (Air) Bimal Julka, General Officer Commanding of 101 Area, Major General V Nayanar and Inspector General of BSF in-charge Asom and Meghalaya P K Mishra were also present during the occasion.
