HC notice to I

Chandigarh, May 31 (UNI) Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued notice for October 3 to the Information and Broadcasting ministry, Central Board for Film Certification and a host of liquor manufacturing companies on a PIL.

The order was passed by a Division Bench of Chief Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Mahesh Grover on the PIL filed by Vivek Sharma a local resident.

The PIL seeks directions to restrain the liquor companies from promoting their products directly or indirectly through advertisments in films, television or print media as the same was having harmful effect on the youth of the country.

The PIL contended that the liquor ads were in violation of the rules notified by the Information and Broadcasting ministry on August 9, 2006 about regulating and restricting such ads.
