Haryana Gujjars give ultimatum to Rajasthan govt
Hisar, May 31 (UNI) The Gujjar community today held a mahapanchayat in Hisar district town of Haryana and threatened to proceed to Rajasthan if their demand for Scheduled Tribes (ST) status was not accepted within a fortnight.
"The mahapanchayat has served 15-day ultimatum to the Rajasthan government to accept our demand failing which thousands of people from Haryana will proceed to Rajasthan to join the agitation,'' community leader Jai Narain Gujjar said after the mahapanchayat in Gujjran Parao area.
The irate members of the community later came out on the streets of the town and burnt an effigy of Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhra Raje.
The demonstartors also stopped Haryana Roadways buses going to Rajasthan. The heavy posse of the police kept a watch on the situation and moved with the demonstrators keeping a distance to maintain peace.
The Mahapanchayat also demanded that the Rajasthan government should give Rs 25 lakh as compensation to the families of those killed in police firing.
