Efforts are on to make city smoke-free
Chandigarh, May 31 (UNI) The Chandigarh administration is working with a comprehensive approach to make the city smoke-free.
The Administration is committed to provide healthier environment to residents and tourists, Union Territory Home Secretary Krishna Mohan said on the occasion of Anti-Tobacco Day today.
Smoking at public places, including bus stands, restaurants, clubs, theatres and parks is likely to be banned. Specific areas would be marked for those who smoke so that non-smokers were not forced to passive smoking.
On the Anti-Tobacco Day, the UT Health Department in collaboration with the Department of Community Medicine of PGI organized a function at the Civil Dispensary in Sector 38 of Chandigarh to mark the day.
Various speakers interacted with the audience about the bad effects of tobacco use. Film and skit shows were organised, followed by talks given by doctors. The audience was made aware of various provisions of the Cigarette and other Tobacco Act 2005 and the ill effects of use of tobacco in public places.
