CPI(M) land grab move is to benefit TDP: AICC leader

Hyderabad, May 31 (UNI)AICC Secretary and MLC P Sudhakara Reddy today complained to Congress President Sonia Gandhi that the ''Bhoo Poratam'' (Land Grabbing Movement) launched by the CPI(M) in the state was to benefit its ally the TDP and for its own survival.

In a letter to her, copy of which was released to the media here, he said the movement was launched at a time when the state government was gearing up to launch the fourth phase of the land distribution programme. In the last three phases over 4.38 lakh acres had been distributed to the poor and mariginal farmers.

He said in addition to this, a massive housing programme was launched for the poor envisaging construction of 20 lakh houses in three years.

He said Rs 500 crore were earmarked for acquisition of house sites and the state government was prepared to spend more money on the project, if necessary.

Alleging that the CPI(M) was occupying even private land, he said two farmers, whose lands were occupied had committed suicide.

Alleging that the CPI(M), was unable to bear the popularity the Congress government was gaining had launched this movement to get publicity and tarnish the image of the pro-poor state government, he also urged the party President not to be carried away by the false propaganda of the Communists .
