Court rejects anticipatory bail applications
Ahmedabad, May 31 (UNI) A local court today rejected the anticipatory bail applications, moved by three officers of Rajasthan police in connection with their alleged involvement in the 'fake encounter case' of Sohrabuddin Sheikh in Gujarat.
Rejecting the bail applications filed by Abdul Rehman Sheikh, police inspector, Himanshusinh and Shyamsinh--both Sub Inspectors of Rajasthan police, Justice Pradip P Bhatt observed that the designated court could not grant anticipatory bail to all the police officers as the arrest warrants against them had already been issued under Cr PC 70 by the authorities.
He observed that the trio has not been cooperating, since last one-and-half months, with the Gujarat CID Team, which is probing the fake encounter case.
''The accused being police officers know what are the important envidences in the case and also know how to damage them so it was not advisable to grant them bail,'' the Judge noted.
Earlier on May 28, another local court had issued arrest warrants against the trio and two more police officers -- M L Parmar, Dy.SP Anti-Terrorist Squad, Gujarat, B R Chaube, police sub-inspector ATS -- of Gujarat Police in the case.
Gujarat CID said Police Inspector Abdul Rahman was one of the three officials, who allegedly shot Sohrabuddin on the outskirts of Ahmedabad in November 2005. The CID informed the court that the five police personnel had not responded to the summons issued to them for recording their statements.
