Chickungunya casualties not reported in Alappuzha

Alappuzha, Kerala, May 31 (UNI) No Chickungunya casualties have been reported so far in the Alappuzha district, according to Central Expertise headed by Shawkathali of National Institute of Communicable Disease.

Dr Shawkathali said the team, however, was cautious about the possible outbreak of Dung fever. The team visited several places in this district, he added.

He said the team collected details from 6,600 people and checked the density of mosquitoes in Cherthala, where Chickungunya had claimed more than hundred lives in the last year. The southern district results were was entirely different from Cherthala as the density in these places were very high.

Chennithala Panchayath had reported the highest density of mosquitoes now, he added.
