Cabinet to take decision on compensation to sugar cane farmers

Mangalore, May 31 (UNI) The Karnataka Cabinet would take a final decision on payment of Rs 25,000 per Hectare as compensation to the sugar cane growers whose crop was not lifted by the Sugar factories for crushing, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said today.

Talking to newsmen here, he said that both the Finance department and Cooperative department have recommended for the relief and a decision would be taken in the next Cabinet meeting.

Mr Kumaraswamy said that the sugar cane growers were on the verge of destroying the crop which was laying in their field as the cane crushing factories could not purchase due to hike the sugar prices.

Replying a question, Mr Kumaraswamy said that during his campaign for the June two byelection to the Ullal several issues have come across and "I have lost confidence in announcing the packages, but surely would come out with solutions to solve the problems of the people." UNI
