AP Govt to set up trauma care centres on national highways

Hyderabad, May 31 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Vaidya Vidhana Parishad and Hospital Services Minister V Venkateswara Rao today said the government would set up four trauma care centres on national highways to provide first aid to the victims of road accidents which were rapidly increasing in the state.

Addressing mediapersons here, Mr Rao said the centres would be set up at Nellore, Eluru, Srikakulam and Rajahmundry at the cost of Rs five crore.

The construction work at the Nellore centre was about to complete.

The objective of the setting up of the centres was to provide instant treatment to the injured and enable them to be taken to the nearby hospitals if their condition was critical.

Stating the government would also establish 17 new blood banks this year in the state to meet the requirements the Minister added 170 specialist doctors and 1000 doctor's posts in Primary Health Care (PHC) centres would also be filled up in 2007 only.

Mr Rao said complaint box would be installed at every government hospital and action would be taken against doctors not performing their duties regularly.

The government had allocated Rs 32 crore to provide emergency medicines in all hospitals this year, he added.
