Agartala, May 31 (UNI) The family members of a victim, who died following alleged police torture, have lodged a complain with the National Human Rights Commission(NRC) at Dharmanagar in North Tripura.

They have alleged that Iresh Chandra Nath (45) died in a private hospital following third degree torture by the police on May 28.

Nath was arrested in connection with the murder of a 12-year-old student at Bamunia village bordering Asom, on March 19.

Police took Iresh into their custody on May 26 and he died in the hospital, after being shifted there.

The victim's family had filed an FIR against Officer-In-Charge of Churaibari Police Station and two other sub-inspectors alleging custodial death.

However, police denied the allegation stating that Nath had been suffering from Tuberculosis, which was the cause of his death.

''We are investigating the case to ascertain the cause of the death, as the postmortem report is still awaited,'' Additional Police Superintendent Arjun Debbarmma said.

Meanwhile, the villagers have launched a movement demanding exemplary punishment of the accused police officers and announced to go for a mass demonstration in front of the police station from tomorrow.
